Hartlepool Carnival
The Hartlepool Carnival is one of the North East’s most beloved summer traditions, with its
roots going back well over a century. Historically, it began as a local seaside celebration,
growing over the decades into a colourful festival that now includes parades, performances,
live music, and community gatherings.
In 2025, for the very first time, the Indian-Malayalee community participated through HIMA
CIO – marking a memorable milestone in the Carnival’s history.
Our contributions included:
• A vibrant performance of regional South Indian dance, which captivated the crowd
with colourful costumes and rhythmic movements.
• A taste of India at the afterparty, where visitors enjoyed authentic Indian cuisine
lovingly prepared by our members.
This participation provided a unique opportunity for the people of Hartlepool to experience
the rich culture of India through both arts and cuisine, further enriching the Carnival’s long
standing tradition of diversity and celebration.
